MISI KEMANUSIAAN SEMPORNA 1.0 & 2.0 – Semporna, Malaysia 2022

In October 2022, CHILDRITY, in partnership with IMPACTIVE MALAYSIA, embarked on a powerful humanitarian mission to Semporna, Sabah. The initiative focused on tackling period poverty, conducting a community circumcision program, and distributing essential food parcels, bringing meaningful support and care to those in need. The people of perkampungan atas air live in harsh poverty, trapped by their stateless status. Without citizenship, they face a life without access to education, limited healthcare, and scarce job opportunities, leaving them in a cycle of hardship and uncertainty.

  • In perkampungan atas air, women and girls face the silent struggle of period poverty, unable to afford disposable pads due to financial hardships. This ongoing challenge affects their health, dignity, and daily lives, highlighting a critical but often overlooked need within their community.
  • In collaboration with the SUCI CUP team, we distributed 400 reusable pads and 23 menstrual cups to women in need, empowering them with sustainable and dignified menstrual hygiene solutions. Meanwhile, IMPACTIVE MALAYSIA conducted a circumcision program, supporting 94 boys aged 4 to 18 from underprivileged families, helping to meet essential health needs in the community. The circumcision program was expertly led by Dr. Jawahir Madeaming from Poliklinik Sejati Merota.
  • Additionally, we distributed 120 food parcels to support struggling families within the community. Each parcel was filled with essentials like rice, potatoes, noodles, sugar, salt, soy sauce, and tea, providing relief to nearly 1,700 people across Kampung Ambuk-Ambuk, Pulau Nusa Tengah, and Kg. Halo Hujung.
  • Two months later, in December 2022, we returned to Semporna for the Semporna Humanitarian Mission 2.0, a powerful follow-up focused on providing aid to even more families in need. This mission included the distribution of 5,000 food parcels to 500 struggling families and the complete renovation of a neglected mosque in Kampung Halo Hujung. Once in disrepair—with leaking roofs, a crumbling floor, broken walls, and no proper place for ablution—the mosque underwent a two-month transformation to restore it as a safe and sacred space for the community.
