Comoros, one of the poorest countries in the world, is a small island nation in the Indian Ocean, located between the eastern coast of Africa (Mozambique) and northern Madagascar. Islam is the dominant religion in Comoros, with about 98-99% of the population being Sunni Muslims, following the Shafi’i school of thought. With a high poverty rate and limited economic opportunities. Around 45% of the population lives below the poverty line, and many struggle with unemployment, lack of infrastructure, and food insecurity.
Some mosques in Comoros have damaged roofs, crumbling walls, and lack proper facilities like clean water and prayer mats. Our mission is to build a mosque in a rural area of Comoros, providing a sacred and welcoming space for the community to pray, learn and grow. The mosque will be able to welcome up to 300 people at a time and will be a center of learning and discovery for children, with completion expected by August 2025. 🕌✨
Key features of the mosque : solar powered, sustainable design, dedicated Qurban facilities, Quranic school, filtered rain water harvesting and toilets.
