According to the World Bank, India has reduced its poverty rate significantly in the past few decades. However, millions of people still live below the poverty line. A large portion of the workforce, especially in rural areas, is either unemployed or underemployed in low-paying, unorganized sectors. Although the government has made strides, access to high-quality education and healthcare remains limited for many poor families, which hampers their upward mobility.
We met Arman, a sweet teenage boy during our India Mission in June 2023. He was volunteering for AICT in Bihar, India during our visit. Arman and his mother make their home in an old house located atop a hill. He discontinued his schooling as the fee is beyond their financial means and now he helps his mother in selling tea at a stall set up by AICT. CHILDRITY accumulated funds to support his education, expand Arman’s mother tea shop so that they could earn more and build a new house for them on the level ground.
